POST-CONFERENCE TOURS
You will find below a brief description of
- a 3-day tour from Oporto to Lisbon, visiting several towns and heritage sites in central/southern Portugal.
- a 1-day visit and river cruise in the upper-Douro valley, a wine-growing region (the source of Port wine), noted for its dramatic landscape.
If you are interested in one of these tours, please send a message entitled “post-conference tour” to iasil08@letras.up.pt . In your message please give your full name and state your choice of tour (Tour 1 or 2).
Please note that, for legal and functional reasons, the university cannot itself organise the post-conference tours. Therefore, reservations for these tours will be separate and distinct from registration for the IASIL conference itself.
The IASIL 2008 committee will draw up a list of delegates who have stated their interest and forward it to tour organisers Stimulus; this travel agency will then contact delegates to provide details regarding payment and any other necessary information.

Tour 1:
Saturday, 2 August:
Departure from Oporto.
Morning: visiting Coimbra, including the cathedral and the old university library;
Afternoon: visiting the medieval monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça, in central Portugal, and the walled town of Óbidos.
Overnight stay at Hotel dos Templários, Tomar.
Sunday, 3 August:
Morning: departure towards Évora; visiting the town (a world heritage site) and some of its more prominent monuments (including the ruins of a Roman temple).
Afternoon: visiting a pre-historic megalithic site, the Almendres cromlech.
Departure towards Lisbon.
Overnight stay at Hotel Fénix, Lisbon.
Monday, 4 August:
Morning: visiting Sintra.
Afternoon: city tour of Lisbon; major sights and monuments.
Overnight stay at Hotel Fénix, Lisbon.
Tuesday, 5 August:
End of tour.
Price will vary according to the size of the group, ranging from a maximum of 511 euros per person (if only 20 delegates register for this) to a minimum of 429 euros (for a group of at least 40 participants).
These prices will cover:
-Travel in air-conditioned coach:
-English-speaking tour guide;
-Full board from lunch on Day 1 to breakfast on Day 4*
-Three nights at 4-star hotels
-Tickets for all monuments to be visited.

Tour 2:
Saturday, 2 August
Morning:
08.00 – Departure from Oporto to Régua.
11.30 – Douro river cruise, including lunch.
Afternoon: Port-wine tasting at the Vintage House Hotel (Pinhão); visiting the mountain-top belvedere of São Leonardo de Galafura.
Wine tasting at the Pacheca estate in Lamego.
Return to Oporto.
Price will vary according to the size of the group, ranging from a maximum of 175 euros per person (if only 20 delegates register for this) to a minimum of 135 euros (for a group of at least 40 participants).
These prices will cover:
-Travel in air-conditioned coach:
-English-speaking tour guide;
-River cruise and lunch;
-Wine tasting
