Participation in projects:

• Since October 2002 - supervisor of the CLUP Polo of the Linguateca project - see http://www.linguateca.pt . 

• Linguateca is a distributed language resource center for Portuguese, which was launched as a result of the project ‘Computational Processing of Portuguese’ and inherited its mission while enlarging its aims.   This project is financed by POSI – Programa Operacional Sociedade de Informação, within the FEDER framework and supervised by the FCCN - Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional.

• Our activities in Porto so far have included work on the evaluation of machine translation – see http://poloclup.linguateca.pt/ferramentas (METRA, EVAL and BOOMERANG) from which we developed the CorTa corpus at http://www.linguateca.pt/.  At present we are developing and testing a set of online tools for corpus construction and analysis – see http://www.linguateca.pt/corpografo  - CORPÓGRAFO (username and password available on request).  Our main objective is to produce comparable corpora of special domain texts with related terminological databases in which particular emphasis is given to semantic relations and the visualisation of the resulting ontologies.

• Since 1994: Member of the  Conselho Científico of the Centro Linguístico da Universidade do Porto (CLUP) and supervisor of the project - Portuguese in contrast with English.

• Since 1984: Member of the Centro Linguístico da Universidade do Porto (CLUP)

• 2003-2005 Coordinator of the  ITEGO – Interactive Teaching of English Online project with the University of Chemnitz, Germany, financed by GRICES-DAAD.

• 2001 - FLUP representative on the committee CRE Formative Evaluation of Universities’ ICT Strategies

• January 1998 - March 1999.  Representative for FLUP with the project LETRAC - Language Engineering for Translation Curricula (LE4-8324) financiado pela Comissão Europeia, DG XIII dentro do Telematics Application Programme of the 4th Framework

• 1997-1999. Representative for FLUP for the SOCRATES Thematic Network - ACO*HUM - Advanced Computing for the Humanities.

• 1996-8. Coordinator of FLUP's activities for the EC-funded project 'Open and Distance Learning' - Open to Europe
